European champions Paris Saint-Germain lifted the UEFA Super Cup for the first time after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties, the match having finished 2-2 in regulation at Udine’s Stadio Friuli on 13 August. Tottenham held a 2-0 lead through Micky van de Ven’s 39-minute strike and a Cristian Romero header early in the second half. Substitutes Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos rescued PSG with goals in the 85th minute and in the fourth minute of stoppage time, respectively. In the ensuing shoot-out, debutant goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier saved Van de Ven’s attempt, Mathys Tel shot wide for Spurs and Nuno Mendes converted the decisive kick to secure the trophy. The victory gives PSG a fifth piece of silverware in 2025, adding to their Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions titles, and marks the first time a French club has won the Super Cup. Tottenham, in their first competitive outing under new coach Thomas Frank, now turn to the Premier League opener against Burnley on Saturday, while PSG begin their Ligue 1 season away to Nantes on Sunday.
