Former France international Samir Nasri has signed a four-year extension with Canal+, keeping him on the broadcaster’s football coverage until June 2029, according to L’Équipe and a statement from Canal+. Nasri’s decision closes talks he had held with Ligue 1+, the in-house streaming channel the French Professional Football League plans to launch before the new season. The LFP had been courting Nasri and fellow former international Franck Ribéry to headline its pundit roster, which already features commentator Xavier Domergue and presenters Thibault Le Rol and Marina Lorenzo. Explaining his choice, the 38-year-old analyst said Canal+ “is premium, it’s the Champions League,” adding that the network had “repositioned” his image during his four years on air. He is expected to remain a fixture on the flagship “Canal Champions Club” programme. Ligue 1+ is still expected to finalise its on-air team in the coming weeks ahead of the domestic season’s 15 August start. With Nasri unavailable, the channel is seeking another high-profile analyst to strengthen its launch lineup.
