International political backing for Iran’s organised opposition gained momentum this week as legislatures in Australia, France and Italy issued coordinated statements endorsing Maryam Rajavi’s 10-Point Plan for a secular, democratic republic in Tehran and rejecting both military intervention and diplomatic appeasement of the clerical regime. A declaration signed by a majority of Tasmania’s parliament—including the Speaker, government ministers, opposition leaders and the Greens—condemned Iran’s human-rights record, noting at least 1,000 executions in 2024. The lawmakers urged Canberra and other democracies to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation and to recognise the Iranian people’s right to change their government. In France, 159 cross-party deputies published an open letter in the regional daily Ouest-France calling Rajavi’s “third option”—regime change by Iranians themselves—the only viable path. The signatories warned of the imminent execution of political prisoners linked to the opposition and pressed Paris to take a firmer stance toward Tehran. The regional parliament of Abruzzo, Italy, passed a similar motion backing the Ten-Point Plan, while UK lawmaker Sammy Wilson reiterated his support during talks with the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s representative in London. Rajavi’s programme commits to free elections, gender equality, separation of religion and state, abolition of the death penalty and a non-nuclear Iran. The latest endorsements add to earlier support claimed from more than 4,000 legislators worldwide, underscoring growing international concern over Tehran’s crackdown and the search for alternative policy options.
