In the night between August 8 and 9, 2025, in Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets near Saint-Malo, Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany, a man killed his ex-companion, Tatiana Mevel, aged 36, in front of their daughters. The man, who was armed and threatened a gendarme with a machete, was subsequently shot and killed by the gendarme. Tatiana Mevel had previously filed two complaints against her former partner related to domestic violence. The incident is classified as a feminicide. The perpetrator was reportedly known to the justice system for prior acts of domestic violence.
