Federal officials have expanded a recall of frozen shrimp products due to potential contamination with the radioactive isotope cesium-137, which is linked to an increased cancer risk from long-term exposure. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has identified multiple brands involved in the recall, including Walmart's Great Value, Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, and Great American, distributed by Southwind Foods across 13 states. The recall includes both raw and cooked frozen shrimp products processed in facilities where contamination was detected. In response to these findings, the FDA has increased inspections of shrimp imports and domestic products to prevent further distribution of contaminated seafood. Separately, Viva Raw has voluntarily recalled certain raw dog and cat food products due to contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, prompting warnings against feeding these products to pets.
