Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 17 July conducted an aerial inspection of a newly built bridge on the Varanasi ring road that links Babhanpura, the last village of Varanasi district, with Raunakurna in neighbouring Chandauli. The span is part of a wider effort to improve connectivity between the two districts and relieve traffic pressure on the existing routes across the River Ganga. During the flight the chief minister also surveyed water levels at the Varanasi ghats, amid heightened vigilance along the Ganga during the monsoon season. State officials have been monitoring the river for potential flooding as upstream rains push up flows. After the inspection Adityanath chaired a review meeting in Chandauli to take stock of local development projects and assess the district’s law-and-order situation, according to a state government statement.
