Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on 4 July inaugurated an equestrian statue of 18th-century Maratha commander Peshwa Bajirao I at the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, near Pune. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior military officers attended the ceremony, which included a guard of honour for the visiting minister. Describing the academy as the "most appropriate place" for the memorial, Shah said cadets would draw inspiration from Bajirao’s military campaigns and asserted that “no one would dare to touch the borders of India.” The minister also paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and highlighted the expansion of the Maratha empire after Bajirao’s death. During his day-long visit to Pune, Shah also inaugurated the Jayaraj Sports and Convention Centre, laid the foundation stone for the PHRC Health City, and interacted with NDA cadets.
