The Bihar Congress has announced a campaign to distribute free sanitary pads to 500,000 women in the state under the 'Priyadarshini Udaan Yojana' ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. The sanitary pad packets prominently feature the photograph of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, as well as party MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The initiative, led by the Mahila Congress, also aims to raise awareness about women's health issues. The move has sparked political controversy, with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticizing the use of Rahul Gandhi's image on the sanitary pad packaging. BJP leaders, including Union Minister Chirag Paswan and spokespersons like Alok Kumar, described the tactic as inappropriate and questioned the intent behind it. Congress leaders defended the campaign, with Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram pointing out the prevalence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photos in JD(U) offices and accusing the BJP of being anti-women. All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba and Bihar Mahila Congress President Fatima emphasized the welfare aspect of the initiative and dismissed the opposition's criticism as politically motivated. The campaign has drawn widespread attention and debate across political circles in Bihar and beyond.
