Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the state will raise the monthly stipend under its flagship Ladli Behna Yojana to ₹1,500 after Diwali, up from the current ₹1,250. More than 1.27 crore women will receive the higher payment, with an interim bonus of ₹250 scheduled for Raksha Bandhan. Yadav told a women’s empowerment conference that the government has set aside ₹27,147 crore for programmes targeting women in the current fiscal year, of which ₹18,699 crore is allocated to the Ladli Behna Yojana. The scheme, launched in June 2023 at ₹1,000 a month and increased last year, is credited with boosting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s support in the 2023 state election. The chief minister also highlighted related initiatives, including the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, which has distributed ₹672 crore to 51 lakh girls, and said more than 9,000 tribal families have received land rights under the Forest Rights Act. He reiterated a pledge to reserve 33% of seats for women in the forthcoming Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.
