Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday visited Mainpat in Chhattisgarh to inspect “Ulta Pani,” a small hillside stream where water appears to flow upward. Calling the spectacle a “miracle,” Chouhan said the phenomenon underscored the state’s untapped tourism potential and should be highlighted to attract more visitors. Chouhan’s stop in Mainpat followed a wider tour of the Bastar region, where the onset of the monsoon has already driven an uptick in arrivals at Chitrakoot Falls, often dubbed the ‘Niagara of India.’ State officials hope that renewed interest in natural attractions such as Ulta Pani and Chitrakoot will bolster local employment and spur investment in basic visitor infrastructure ahead of the main holiday season.
