A special National Investigation Agency court at Delhi’s Patiala House on 9 July extended the judicial custody of 26/11 Mumbai terror-attack accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana until 13 August. The 64-year-old was produced via video conference from Tihar Jail, where he remains in a high-security cell. The extension follows the NIA’s filing of its first supplementary chargesheet in the case. The document, submitted the same day, is described by prosecutors as a formal compilation of evidence, including extradition records, seizure memos and the arrest memo, and alleges Rana conspired with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami operatives. Defence counsel Piyush Sachdev said a copy of the chargesheet is expected within a week. Rana, a Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin and long-time associate of David Coleman Headley, was extradited from the United States in April after the US Supreme Court rejected his final appeal. He is one of nine people charged by India in connection with the November 2008 attacks, which left 166 dead and lasted nearly 60 hours across Mumbai. The next hearing is scheduled for 13 August, when the court will consider the new filing.
