The International Cricket Council on Monday named Indian media executive Sanjog Gupta as its new chief executive officer, replacing Australia’s Geoff Allardice, who resigned earlier this year. Gupta becomes the governing body’s seventh CEO and takes charge immediately. Gupta joins from Mumbai-based JioStar, where he ran the sports and live-experiences business after Reliance Industries and Walt Disney completed an $8.5 billion merger of their Indian media assets last November. During his tenure at Star India and JioStar he helped shape broadcast coverage of ICC World Cups, the Indian Premier League and other domestic leagues. The ICC said the role drew more than 2,500 applications from candidates across 25 countries after a global search launched in March; a nominations committee shortlisted 12 names before the board ratified Gupta’s appointment. ICC chair Jay Shah said Gupta’s experience in sports broadcasting and digital strategy would underpin efforts to grow the game and capitalise on opportunities such as cricket’s return to the Olympics at Los Angeles 2028.
