India's first indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Vessel (DSV), named 'Nistar', was delivered to the Indian Navy by Hindustan Shipyard Limited on July 8, 2025, at Visakhapatnam. The vessel measures 118 meters in length and has a tonnage of nearly 10,000 tons. It is equipped with state-of-the-art deep-sea diving and submarine rescue capabilities, including remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) capable of operations up to 1,000 meters depth. The ship is the first of two DSVs planned for the Indian Navy and will soon be commissioned into the Eastern Fleet. The commissioning ceremony is scheduled for July 18, 2025, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam and will be attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The vessel's crest features an anchor symbolizing maritime strength and its role as the 'Guardian of the Deep'. The Nistar has been designed and built in accordance with the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping.
