India’s Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said he intends to devote his post-political life to studying the Vedas and Upanishads and to promoting natural farming, which he described as a “scientific experiment” with significant health and productivity benefits. Speaking on 9 July at “Sahkar Samvaad,” a dialogue with cooperative-sector workers from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, Shah argued that crops grown without chemical fertilisers can curb diseases such as cancer and diabetes while lifting yields. He added that he has already adopted the practice on his own farm, claiming grain output has risen by about one-and-a-half times. Shah did not specify when he plans to retire but framed the pledge as part of a broader push by the Cooperation Ministry to strengthen rural incomes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “prosperity through cooperation” agenda.
