Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said the party will contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections on its own, formally ending any electoral understanding with the Congress. Speaking at a press conference on 3 July in Ahmedabad, the former Delhi chief minister stressed that the INDIA alliance had been conceived only for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and "no alliance exists now." Kejriwal accused the Congress of fielding a candidate in the recent Visavadar by-poll in Gujarat to undercut AAP’s vote share, adding that the move demonstrated the two parties’ divergent interests. He said AAP’s organisational work for Bihar has begun and the party will announce candidates after internal consultations. AAP’s decision inserts a new player into a state traditionally dominated by the National Democratic Alliance and the Mahagathbandhan led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress. Analysts say the entry of AAP, which governs Delhi and Punjab and has been expanding in Gujarat, could further fragment the opposition vote in an election widely expected to be closely fought.
