Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge began a day-long visit to Hyderabad on Friday, presiding over an extended executive meeting of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee at Gandhi Bhavan alongside AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other senior leaders. The consultations come as the party prepares for local-body polls and weighs demands from legislators seeking cabinet berths. Kharge and state leaders subsequently unveiled a statue of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Konijeti Rosaiah at Lakdikapool on the late leader’s 92nd birth anniversary, paying tribute to what he called Rosaiah’s "Gandhian" service and adherence to Congress ideals. Addressing thousands of workers at the ‘Samajika Nyaya Samarabheri’ rally in LB Stadium, the Congress chief highlighted the Social Educational Employment Economic Caste Survey being conducted for backward classes in Telangana, saying the exercise could serve as a national model. He also questioned proposals for a 42 per cent reservation quota, asking “from where will we bring it, and will it secure approval?” Kharge sharpened his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, labelling the Centre’s foreign policy "faulty" and claiming it had left India "surrounded with enemies". He criticised Modi’s absence from an all-party meeting he had sought, and argued that the government’s priorities lay in overseas travel rather than addressing domestic crises such as the violence in Manipur. State ministers and party functionaries said the convention had lifted worker morale and predicted a sweep in forthcoming local elections. The Telangana government, they added, would continue to ‘protect the Constitution’ and implement Congress welfare schemes launched during its 18 months in office.
