More than 30 trucks were damaged in the early hours of 9 July in New Alipore, a southern neighbourhood of Kolkata, according to the local Truck Owners Association. Windscreens, body panels and tyres were smashed across a line of parked vehicles, leaving several lorries inoperable. The association alleges that police personnel carried out the vandalism following a dispute over where the trucks had been parked. Photographs circulating locally show shattered glass and slashed tyres, but no injuries were immediately reported. Neither the Kolkata Police nor the West Bengal government had issued a formal statement by late afternoon. The Truck Owners Association said it would file a complaint and seek compensation for the losses, which it estimates run into several million rupees.
