Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report after shards of glass were found scattered along the Kanwar Yatra route in Shahdara on Sunday, prompting concerns for the safety of thousands of Shiva devotees walking toward the Haridwar pilgrimage. Patrols were intensified and additional personnel deployed to keep the corridor clear while forensic teams collected evidence from the site. Delhi minister Kapil Mishra alleged on social media that the fragments were deliberately strewn to disrupt the procession, calling the episode a case of “Kanwar sabotage.” Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena directed the police commissioner to submit a report on the incident and to fix responsibility swiftly. Investigators later said their initial probe points to an accident: glass panels being transported in an e-rickshaw apparently shattered and spilled onto the roadway. Police are tracing the vehicle and questioning local shopkeepers to confirm the sequence of events. The route remains open, and authorities said water, juice and other assistance are being provided to yatris while the investigation continues.
