A series of moderate earthquakes ranging from magnitude 4.5 to 4.9 have been recorded near the Nicobar Islands and the region south-southeast of Port Blair, India, between June 24 and July 7, 2025. The most notable seismic activity in the area included multiple events around 280 to 290 kilometers SSE of Port Blair. On July 13, a stronger earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck approximately 275 kilometers SSE of Port Blair. Subsequently, on July 14, a major earthquake with a magnitude between 6.7 and 7.0 occurred in Indonesia's Tanimbar Islands region. Various authoritative sources including the US Geological Survey (USGS), German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), and other international agencies reported the event, locating it about 179 kilometers southwest of Tual, Indonesia, at a depth of approximately 65.7 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of casualties or infrastructural damage, and no tsunami warnings were issued following the quake.
