Un terremoto de magnitud 5,5 ocurrió en el noroeste de Filipinas, según el Servicio Geológico de los Estados Unidos (USGS).
A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 struck Indonesia’s remote Tanimbar Islands early Monday, according to seismic monitor GEOFON. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) put the magnitude at 6.8, while a later reading registered a 6.7-magnitude tremor offshore eastern Indonesia, likely an aftershock. Indonesian authorities had not released information on damage, casualties or tsunami risk by late Monday. The Tanimbar archipelago, part of the Banda Sea, lies on the seismically active Pacific “Ring of Fire,” where tectonic plates frequently collide. The Indonesian event was among several moderate to strong quakes recorded worldwide the same day. Separate shocks included a magnitude-5.3 tremor in southern Spain, a 6.2 quake off Panama’s Pacific coast, a 5.8 jolt in Russia’s Kuril Islands and a 5.6–5.8 quake in northern Luzon in the Philippines, whose tremors were felt as far away as Hong Kong.
