Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat of the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena has come under scrutiny after receiving an Income Tax notice concerning an increase in assets between 2019 and 2024. The Income Tax Department has asked him to submit a response by July. Shirsat has stated that the department is conducting routine scrutiny and that cooperation is necessary. The notice follows complaints filed against him. A video circulated by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut shows Shirsat allegedly sitting next to a bag purportedly filled with cash, which Shirsat denies, claiming the bag contains clothes. The video has intensified political tensions, with leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress demanding transparency and questioning why Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has not taken action. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray criticized the situation, highlighting the video and calling for accountability. The controversy comes amid reports that other political figures, including Shrikant Shinde and members of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's family, have also received Income Tax notices.
