The body of Abhishek Varun, a manager at ICICI Lombard’s Kankarbagh branch in Patna, was recovered on 15 July from a 30-foot-deep dry well in the Beur-Hasanpura area on the outskirts of the Bihar capital. His scooter was found submerged in the same well, police said. Varun had been missing since the night of 13 July, when he left a family function at Ganpati Utsav Hall around 10 p.m. on his two-wheeler. CCTV footage time-stamped 10:48 p.m. shows him riding alone and appearing slightly unsteady. At about 1 a.m. he rang his wife, saying he had met with an accident, after which his phone went dead and a missing-person report was filed. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar told reporters that, based on initial inspection, the incident "appears to be an accident", but investigators are examining all possibilities, including foul play. A post-mortem examination will determine the cause and time of death, while forensic teams comb the site for additional evidence.
