An encounter between security forces and Naxal insurgents took place on the morning of July 16, 2025, in the forested area near Birhordera, under Gomia police station jurisdiction in Bokaro district, Jharkhand. The clash began around 5:30-6:00 am during a search operation and lasted for about an hour, involving multiple rounds of firing from both sides. The operation involved the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police. During the encounter, Sub-Zonal Naxal Commander Kunwar Manjhi, also known as Sahdeo Manjhi or Sade, was neutralized. He had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his arrest. An AK-47 rifle was recovered from the site. CRPF Constable Praneswar Koch of the 209 CoBRA unit sustained a bullet injury and was airlifted to Ranchi for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. The incident was confirmed by Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta and IG Operations S Michael Raj. The operation is ongoing as of the latest reports.
