The flood situation in Odisha, India, particularly affecting the districts of Balasore and Mayurbhanj, has been a major concern due to rising water levels in several rivers including the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, Jalaka, and Sono. The Odisha government responded by closing schools and initiating evacuation and rescue operations in low-lying areas. At the peak of the crisis, around 100 villages in northern Balasore experienced inundated roads and fields, with two reported fatalities in Balasore district. Heavy rainfall contributed to the flooding, with the state recording 305.8 mm of rainfall over the period. However, by early July, the situation began to improve as water levels in the rivers started to recede, and flood levels dropped below danger marks. Relief efforts continued as the floodwaters gradually withdrew, bringing the overall flood situation under control.
