Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday toured Ramganj Mandi in Rajasthan’s Kota district after days of heavy rainfall left several neighbourhoods inundated. Birla visited the Housing Board Colony and the overflowing drain at Marwar Chauraha, two of the worst-hit locations, and spoke with residents about water-logging and damage to property. After on-site inspections, Birla directed district officials to accelerate relief operations, clear blocked drainage channels and prepare a comprehensive action plan to prevent further flooding. The Speaker said the plan should detail immediate pumping of stagnant water and longer-term drainage upgrades. Local authorities have begun deploying pumps and repair crews, with a progress report expected in the coming days.
