The Supreme Court of India reversed an earlier custody order and restored custody of a child to the mother, citing concerns over the child's psychological wellbeing, including anxiety and a mental breakdown following separation from her. The child involved is reported to be 4 years old, born to an Indian father and a Russian mother. In response to the mother allegedly absconding with the child to Russia, the Supreme Court directed the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs to issue look-out notices to track the Russian woman. The court also ordered the seizure of the Russian mother's passport and instructed police to trace and hand over the child to the Indian father. The Delhi Police were asked to provide a report within 24 hours regarding the whereabouts of the mother and child.
