Uttar Pradesh Police have registered a First Information Report against Rajneesh Gangwar, a teacher at MGM Inter College in Bareilly, after a video surfaced in which he sang a poem that allegedly made objectionable references to the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage. According to Baheri Circle Officer Arun Kumar, Gangwar gathered students in the school courtyard before performing the song, prompting complaints from Hindu organisations once the footage went viral on social media. The case has been filed under sections relating to hurting religious sentiments, police said. As of Tuesday, no arrest had been reported while an investigation is under way to determine whether additional charges are warranted. Additional Director General of Police (Meerut Zone) Manu Bhaskar stated that officers are monitoring the situation and will act swiftly against anyone viewed as disrupting the Kanwar Yatra, which is currently in progress across western Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have increased patrols in sensitive areas to prevent potential unrest as the pilgrimage continues.
