The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' campaign as part of the Plantation Maha Abhiyan 2025, aiming to plant 52 crore saplings this year across the state. Over the past eight years, the government has planted more than 204 crore trees, with a reported survival rate exceeding 75%, according to a survey by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The campaign, which honors motherhood through environmental responsibility, has seen active participation from key state officials including Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak, Sanjay Kumar Nishad, and Keshav Prasad Maurya. On July 9, 2025, Yogi Adityanath personally planted saplings in Ayodhya and Gorakhpur, taking selfies with officials and BJP MP Ravi Kishan to promote the initiative. The government’s efforts have been described as a mass movement transforming Uttar Pradesh’s green cover, with a total of 372.1 million saplings planted statewide on the campaign’s launch day. The plantation drive is intended to address environmental concerns such as carbon dioxide levels and promote sustainable development in the region.
