On July 6, 2025, Mataram City in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia, experienced devastating floods caused by extreme rainfall. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that 4.2 billion liters of water fell within six hours, leading to river overflows from three major rivers: Kali Unus, Kali Ancar, and another unnamed river. Floodwaters reached depths of up to 2.5 meters, nearly submerging houses in areas such as the elite residential neighborhood of Selagalas. Dozens of residents were evacuated due to the severity of the flooding. Concurrently, heavy rains also caused flooding in Jakarta and surrounding areas, including Tangerang, Bekasi, and other parts of the Jabodetabek metropolitan region. In Jakarta, floodwaters reached heights of up to 65 centimeters in some areas, submerging 35 to 52 neighborhood units (RT) and affecting hundreds of homes in locations such as Pondok Aren, Kebon Pala, Mampang, and Kebayoran Baru. In Bekasi, 70 houses were flooded with water levels reaching 1.5 meters. Local authorities, including the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and city officials in Tangerang, have been actively responding to the situation, with evacuation efforts underway and public advisories issued. BMKG warned that flooding risks remain due to ongoing rainfall during the dry season.
