Demonstrators criticized the lawmakers for their high allowances, including a reported Rp 50 million housing allowance, which many viewed as insensitive amid ongoing economic difficulties and high inflation affecting the population. The protest escalated into clashes between demonstrators and police, with authorities deploying water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Several protesters were injured, and police pushed back the demonstrators, leading to damage to the DPR guest registration post and disruptions in public transportation services, including adjustments to Transjakarta bus routes and delays in Commuter Line trains. Despite the unrest outside, parliamentary activities inside the DPR complex continued as normal. Deputy Speaker Puan Maharani pledged to address the protesters' concerns, while Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad urged for orderly demonstrations. The protests also included demands related to the discussion of an asset confiscation bill (RUU Perampasan Aset).
