President Prabowo Subianto officially launched the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (Red and White Village Cooperatives) program on July 21, 2025, inaugurating 80,081 cooperatives aimed at boosting rural economies in Indonesia. The initiative targets grassroots communities, particularly middle to lower-income groups, and is based on principles of mutual cooperation and family values. Each cooperative is set to receive loans ranging from Rp 3 billion to Rp 5 billion from state-owned banks under the Himpunan Bank Negara (Himbara) to support development and food self-sufficiency. The program is designed to expand the reach of state banks into villages, create millions of jobs, and address longstanding rural economic challenges. President Prabowo emphasized the importance of strict and transparent oversight for these cooperatives. The launch event included remarks on political relations, with Prabowo characterizing the relationship between his party, Gerindra, and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) as akin to siblings, a statement acknowledged by Puan Maharani of PDI-P and discussed by political analysts as an attempt to balance power among political factions. Despite the program's nationwide rollout, some cooperatives, such as one in Tuban, were closed shortly after inauguration, and in regions like Purworejo, the program has yet to achieve optimal results. Political figures from coalition parties, including PKB and Golkar, have expressed ongoing considerations regarding related political systems and alliances.
