Gal Gadot Links Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Box-Office Flop to Anti-Israel Pressure
Actress Gal Gadot said Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White” failed at the box office because pressure on Hollywood entertainers to criticize Israel turned audiences against the film. Speaking in an Israeli television interview broadcast on 16 August, the 39-year-old former Israeli Defense Forces member argued that industry expectations intensified after Hamas’s 7 October 2023 attack and the ensuing conflict, creating what she called a hostile climate for Israeli talent. The picture, released in 2024, collected roughly $205 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of $240-$270 million, well below expectations and enough to prompt Disney to pause further live-action fairy-tale remakes, according to trade reports. Gadot said she had anticipated the movie would be “a huge success” before geopolitical tensions intruded. “Snow White” had already drawn fire for digital stand-ins for the seven dwarfs and was later banned in Lebanon. Co-star Rachel Zegler’s public support for Palestinians added to the controversy. The film holds a 38% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, compared with a 70% audience score.
