Israel Police said they intercepted “hundreds” of firearm components during a covert operation at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on 8 July. Officers became suspicious of a passenger’s behaviour, searched the luggage and discovered the parts, which were allegedly being smuggled into the country. The traveller was taken into custody for questioning, and the seized items were transferred for forensic examination. Authorities did not immediately specify the intended destination of the components or whether they were linked to organised crime. The airport bust forms part of a broader crackdown on illicit arms trafficking; earlier the same day police arrested more than 20 people on suspicion of stealing weapons from Israeli army bases, according to security officials.
