Israel’s air-defence systems shot down a ballistic missile launched from Yemen on 1 August, the Israel Defense Forces said. Warning sirens sounded in Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv metropolitan area and other parts of central Israel, and Ben Gurion Airport temporarily suspended incoming flights before resuming operations. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The interception was the second in less than a week. On 29 July the army also downed a missile fired from Yemen, underscoring the expanding reach of the Iran-backed Houthi movement as the Gaza war drags on. The Houthis had already warned on 27–28 July that they would attack any vessel belonging to companies that do business with Israeli ports, regardless of nationality, marking what they called the fourth phase of their campaign against Israel. The threat deepens concerns for both regional shipping lanes and Israeli civilian infrastructure.
