A Condor Airlines Boeing 757 carrying 273 passengers and eight crew members made an emergency landing at Brindisi Airport in southern Italy on 18 August after its right-hand engine caught fire shortly after take-off from Corfu, Greece. Witnesses on board reported loud bangs and visible flames, and the aircraft temporarily lost power before the crew declared an emergency. The pilots brought the twin-engine jet down safely about an hour later; no injuries were reported. Passengers described the incident as “terrifying,” saying they had prepared for the worst as the cabin fell silent during the descent. Condor said it is cooperating with Italian and German aviation authorities, who have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the engine failure. The airline arranged overnight accommodation and onward transport for travellers while a replacement aircraft was dispatched.
