Organisers of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics unveiled the Games’ medals at a ceremony on Venice’s Grand Canal on 15 July. Olympic champion Federica Pellegrini and Paralympic star Francesca Porcellato presented the designs in the presence of regional governors and organising-committee president Giovanni Malagò. Each medal is formed from two half-discs that join to symbolise the partnership between host cities Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo as well as the bond between athletes and their support teams. The 80-millimetre-wide, 10-millimetre-thick discs weigh about 506 g and carry the Olympic rings on the front and the Games’ logo and event engraving on the back; Paralympic versions include Braille lettering. They are being struck by Italy’s state mint, IPZS, using recycled metal from its own production waste. A total of 1,146 medals have been commissioned: 735 for the Olympics and 411 for the Paralympics, evenly divided among gold, silver and bronze. Malagò said the pieces "won’t deteriorate," an assurance aimed at avoiding problems that affected some Paris 2024 medals. The Winter Olympics are scheduled for 6–22 February 2026, followed by the Paralympics from 6–15 March 2026.
