The Yokohama DeNA BayStars have officially signed pitcher Shintaro Fujinami, marking his return to Japanese professional baseball after three years. Fujinami, 31, was previously with the Seattle Mariners' Triple-A Tacoma team in the United States before becoming a free agent. A graduate of Osaka Toin High School, Fujinami was the first overall pick in the 2012 Nippon Professional Baseball draft by the Hanshin Tigers. Over his 10-year career in Japan, he appeared in 189 games, recording 57 wins, 54 losses, and a 3.41 earned run average. The BayStars announced Fujinami will wear jersey number 27 as they aim to strengthen their pitching staff and contend for a comeback victory.
