Kenyan blogger and activist Ndiangui Kinyagia, who had been missing for 13 days since June 21, 2025, resurfaced in court on July 3, 2025. His disappearance sparked widespread concern and allegations of police abduction amid Gen-Z protests scheduled for June 25. The High Court, presided over by Justice Chacha Mwita, had ordered the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohammed Amin to produce Kinyagia or explain his whereabouts. The police and DCI consistently denied holding Kinyagia, stating he was a person of interest in an active investigation and urging him to surrender. DCI officers had raided his Kinoo residence and impounded computers but did not find him. Upon his court appearance, Kinyagia stated that he was not abducted but went into hiding for fear of arrest. His family lawyer, Wahome Thuku, confirmed he was alive, healthy, and had been hiding with the family's knowledge. The High Court barred the police from arresting or detaining Kinyagia until the disappearance case is heard. Following his reappearance, the police directed Kinyagia to present himself at the DCI headquarters to record a statement, warning the public against fabricating abduction claims. The case continues to draw public attention, with mixed reactions on whether Kinyagia was abducted or voluntarily hid to avoid arrest.
