Kenya’s High Court on Thursday allowed the family of Ndiangui Kinyagia additional time to confer with him and seek medical treatment after he appeared in court visibly traumatised. Justice Chacha Mwita ruled that Kinyagia, now recognised as a petitioner, may not be arrested or detained by police until further orders are issued. The judge scheduled substantive hearings for 18 and 24 July at 10:30 a.m. on both days. Kinyagia’s lawyers told the court he reached family members only after the court’s earlier order safeguarding his appearance. The family will use the intervening period to arrange medical attention and determine the next procedural steps.
