Kenya’s Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli said on Monday that the Nairobi Central Business District remains fully open, with residents free to enter and go about their work as usual. Touring the city centre with senior officers, Masengeli told reporters at the University Way roundabout that “everybody is allowed to enter CBD, people are reporting to work as usual.” Masengeli added that the National Police Service has deployed additional officers to safeguard businesses and maintain order ahead of the Saba Saba demonstrations planned for later this week. While foot traffic was lighter than normal, he urged the public to continue routine activities and asked protesters to remain peaceful and adhere to the law. The service warned that any looting, roadblocks or provocation of officers would draw “firm lawful action.”
