Kenya Railways suspends 10PM Madaraka Express over technical fault https://t.co/t2JMoBof2g
Kenya Railways has temporarily suspended the 10:00 p.m. Madaraka Express passenger service between Mombasa and Nairobi after detecting unspecified technical problems with the train. The state-owned operator announced the move in a public notice issued on 6 July, saying the decision was taken out of “an abundance of caution” and that passenger safety remains its top priority. The nighttime service is popular with travellers seeking to make the five-hour journey after business hours. The abrupt cancellation left hundreds of passengers stranded outside the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) terminus in Mombasa on Sunday evening, according to local media reports. Kenya Railways did not indicate when the service would resume and advised customers to monitor its official channels for further updates. The disruption adds to a weekend of travel difficulties along Kenya’s coast. Earlier on Saturday, a police operation on the Mombasa–Diani road caused long traffic tailbacks, leading some motorists to miss afternoon SGR departures. Kenya Railways has apologised for the inconvenience but has yet to detail the nature of the technical fault affecting the 10 p.m. train.
