The Federal Aviation Administration has released a new round of infrastructure grants that channel tens of millions of dollars to airports in California, Nevada and Virginia. The largest share—about $81.3 million—will support runway, taxiway and terminal upgrades at Los Angeles International and the nearby Van Nuys general-aviation field, according to local officials. Separate state filings list roughly $51 million of that total for work at LAX, Van Nuys, Burbank and Chino airports. Nevada airports will receive more than $42 million, with over $41 million directed to Harry Reid International in Las Vegas for runway resurfacing, baggage-handling and drainage projects. Eight smaller municipal, county and tribal airfields will divide the balance, with individual awards generally under $500,000. In Virginia, Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine said more than $21 million has been allocated to improve safety and capacity at several commercial and regional airports. The money is part of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, which distributes federal funds on a competitive basis for critical aviation infrastructure.
Nevada officials have agreed to a nearly $1 million settlement with an incarcerated man — the fourth seven-figure settlement payout made by the state to prisoners or their families in the last two years. Read about it here: https://t.co/gbSgtSHwiZ https://t.co/Wvc5OZX2p7
