CBS News on Thursday named Tanya Simon executive producer of its flagship newsmagazine “60 Minutes,” making her the fourth person—and first woman—to lead the broadcast in its 57-year history. Simon, a 25-year veteran of the program, had held the role on an interim basis since April. She replaces Bill Owens, who resigned after accusing corporate management of constraining editorial independence during a legal dispute with former President Donald Trump. Paramount Global, CBS News’ parent company, agreed earlier this month to pay $16 million to settle Trump’s lawsuit alleging deceptive editing of a 2024 interview with Vice-President Kamala Harris. Simon’s permanent appointment comes as Paramount awaits Federal Communications Commission approval for its proposed $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media, a process scrutinized in Washington amid the fallout from the Trump litigation.
