A notable surge in Ethereum (ETH) trading activity has been observed among several large investors and whales. Over the past week, an unidentified whale accumulated 221,166 ETH valued at approximately $946 million, spreading the holdings across six wallets. This buying spree coincided with a 21% weekly price increase in Ethereum, pushing its value above $4,300. Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, significantly expanded his portfolio within 24 hours by acquiring 1,500 ETH worth $6.35 million, along with substantial amounts of DeFi tokens including 425,000 LDO ($557,000), 420,000 ETHFI ($517,000), and 185,000 PENDLE ($1.02 million). Another early Ethereum ICO participant, who originally received 20,000 ETH for $6,200 at genesis, sold 2,300 ETH valued at $9.91 million but still retains 1,623 ETH worth $6.99 million. This participant also recently deposited 2,000 ETH ($8.55 million) to Kraken and holds a total of 58,000 ETH valued at $247.9 million across wallets. Meanwhile, a whale withdrew 2,009 ETH ($8.53 million) from Binance for staking on EigenLayer and ETH 2.0, with total withdrawals over two months amounting to 10,999 ETH ($46.69 million) and an estimated profit of $13.53 million. Another whale bought 8,745 ETH ($37.54 million) recently, sitting on $112.23 million in unrealized profit. In contrast, the trader AguilaTrades has been actively shorting ETH with 15x leverage, placing large short positions of up to 30,000 ETH ($127 million) but has incurred losses exceeding $3.7 million over three days due to rapid price movements. AguilaTrades’ strategy involves frequent short positions near perceived tops with quick stop-losses. Additionally, a whale created 10 new wallets in eight days, accumulating 312,052 ETH valued at $1.34 billion. There were also withdrawals of other tokens such as 10,019 AAVE ($2.97 million) and 1,000.58 PAXG ($3.35 million) from Binance after a period of inactivity. Separately, Peter Thiel disclosed a 7.5% stake in ETHZilla.
