Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno, leader of Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), formally filed a complaint with Mexico's Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) accusing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of alleged ties to organized crime and Mexican drug cartels. The denunciation highlights purported connections between Maduro and criminal networks, as well as political groups in Mexico. In response, Maduro has condemned opposition groups and accused Colombian drug traffickers and the Albanian mafia in Ecuador of financing campaigns against his government. Over 400 Latin American leaders have expressed support for Maduro amid increasing tensions with the United States, which has threatened new sanctions and called on Venezuelans to rise for their freedom. Venezuelan officials, including Foreign Minister Yván Gil, have warned of a serious military threat from the U.S., accusing it of using the pretext of combating narcotics to turn Latin America into a colonial war zone. Opposition figure María Corina Machado has urged democratic nations to unite in defending Venezuela's freedom and to apply international law to dismantle criminal structures harming Venezuelans. Maduro also criticized the Committee of Mothers in Defense of the Truth, a group advocating for the release of detainees from the 2024 post-election protests. The Venezuelan National Assembly president, Jorge Rodríguez, has warned about infiltrators posing as leftists and chavistas. Meanwhile, Maduro continues to promote domestic security initiatives such as strengthening the Cuadrantes de Paz through the third phase of the 3T strategic plan.
