Mexico's Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has ordered the removal of Colgate Total Prevención Activa Clean Mint toothpaste from the market due to reports of possible adverse reactions among users. The product, manufactured in Mexico by Colgate-Palmolive S.A. de C.V., was subject to the recall following complaints received by Cofepris, with the order issued on August 4, 2025. The health alert has extended beyond Mexico, with Guatemala also announcing the withdrawal of the same toothpaste amid international concerns over health risks. Additionally, similar alerts have been reported in Chile, where Colgate also withdrew the toothpaste but defended its safety. Cofepris has issued multiple health warnings to protect consumers from risks associated with this toothpaste and other products, including prolonged consumption of Tajín seasoning containing silicon dioxide. The recall reflects ongoing regulatory vigilance in Latin America regarding consumer health safety.
