Mexican bakery giant Grupo Bimbo said it will invest more than US$2 billion in its home market between 2025 and 2028, expanding production capacity and advancing sustainability initiatives across seven states. Chief Executive Officer for Mexico José Manuel González made the announcement during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s daily press briefing, underscoring what the government described as private-sector confidence in the administration’s economic agenda known as Plan México. The funds will modernise more than 30 plants, add low-emission delivery vehicles and introduce recyclable packaging, according to González. Economy Ministry official Ximena Escobedo Juárez said the programme is expected to create about 2,000 direct jobs and 10,800 indirect positions in Baja California, Yucatán, Mexico City, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Puebla and the State of Mexico. Bimbo, the world’s largest bread maker, already operates extensively in the United States and other markets. González said the new outlay would not be affected by U.S. tariffs, adding that the company has produced for the U.S. market for two decades. President Sheinbaum called the investment a signal that further domestic and foreign capital could follow.
