The Mexican government, under the #PlanMéxico initiative, announced substantial investments in key sectors to bolster national self-sufficiency and economic growth. Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy, revealed that four Mexican pharmaceutical companies—Kener, Gembio, Alpharma BiogenTec, and Neolsym—will invest a total of 10.48 billion pesos (approximately 560 million USD) to expand infrastructure, production capacity, and biotechnological development in the pharmaceutical sector. This investment aims to enhance Mexico's technological autonomy in medicines and vaccines, with expectations for the sector to grow four to five times during the current administration. Separately, Eduardo Clark, Health Subsecretary, reported that the government has acquired 96% of the medical supplies and medications required for the public health system's operation in 2025 and 2026, with an estimated investment of 284 billion pesos. This includes 98% of essential oncology medications, with plans to receive over 300,000 units for the IMSS-Bienestar program and to store reserves at a centralized megafarmacia. Additionally, Grupo Bimbo announced a major investment of 2 billion USD from 2025 to 2028 to modernize production plants, expand its electric vehicle fleet, and implement sustainable packaging. This investment is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs and over 10,800 indirect jobs across seven Mexican states, including Mexico City, State of Mexico, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Puebla, Yucatán, and Baja California. The government highlighted these investments as a reflection of confidence in Mexico's economic prospects and the #PlanMéxico strategy.
