A violent rain-and-hail storm swept through southern and central Mexico City late on 3 July, blanketing streets in ice and dropping up to 29 millimetres of rain. The Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil issued a Yellow Alert for eight boroughs, including Benito Juárez, Álvaro Obregón, Magdalena Contreras and Cuajimalpa, warning of possible flooding, falling trees and reduced visibility. The storm toppled a tree onto Insurgentes Sur at Félix Cuevas, forcing Metrobus services to halt temporarily before crews cleared the debris and reopened the route around 03:45 local time. Flooding was also reported on Periférico, Barranca del Muerto and Viaducto, while Cablebús operations were briefly suspended as drainage systems struggled to cope with the runoff. City authorities said no casualties had been reported but urged motorists to avoid water-logged arteries and residents to secure loose objects ahead of further downpours forecast for the capital and several northern states as the Mexican monsoon remains active.
