A mass shooting occurred on the night of June 24, 2025, during the San Juan patron saint festival in the Barrio Nuevo neighborhood of Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico. Armed assailants opened fire on attendees celebrating in the street, killing at least 12 people and injuring approximately 20 others, including children. Among the deceased were minors, including a 17-year-old teenager. The attack took place at a home and during a community celebration honoring St. John the Baptist. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the multiple homicides, describing the incident as a tragic confrontation and confirmed that federal and state authorities are jointly investigating the case. The government is working in coordination with Guanajuato's governor, Libia Dennise, to identify and apprehend those responsible. The shooting has heightened concerns over ongoing violence in Guanajuato, one of Mexico's most dangerous states.
